MIT AMx Additive Manufacturing for Innovative Design and Production - Online Course
10% Discount for September 18th, 2023 Start
This fall, MIT is offering the online Additive Manufacturing for Innovative Design and Production (AMx) course, set to commence on September 18, 2023.
The 12-week online course, with a time commitment of 5-7 hours per week, is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and applications.
Developed under the leadership of Prof. John Hart, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, in collaboration with a distinguished faculty comprising experts from MIT and other leading institutions, giving participants an accelerated education and insights from some of the leading figures in the additive manufacturing education space.
Course Overview
The AMx course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of additive manufacturing technologies, materials, and applications. Participants will gain experience through assignments and case studies, as well as engage in interactive sessions that cover everything from the fundamentals to advanced techniques in additive manufacturing though DfAM and AM business case evaluation.
Fundamental Principles: Gain a solid understanding of the workflow and principles behind polymers, metals, and composites in additive manufacturing.
Design Optimization: Learn how to design parts that combine engineering intuition with computationally-driven design and process-specific constraints using Autodesk Fusion 360 ‘Generative Design’ extension.
Material and Process Selection: Acquire the skills to choose the appropriate additive manufacturing process and material for specific applications.
Business Case Evaluation: Learn to assess the value of an additively manufactured part based on its production cost and performance, and evaluate the business case for transitioning a product to additive manufacturing.
Course Structure
The AMx course is structured as a 12-week online program, requiring a time commitment of 5-7 hours per week.
This format is designed to provide a deep dive into the various facets of additive manufacturing, from fundamental principles to advanced applications.
Each week focuses on a specific aspect, allowing participants to gradually build their expertise while testing and applying what they've learned through quizzes, assignments and real-world case studies.
This modular approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, making it an ideal learning experience for professionals looking to master additive manufacturing.
Who Should Take the AMx Course?
As someone with over 15 years experience with a broad range of AM processes, materials and related software, when I first took on the role of teaching assistant for the course and went through all of the core, and supplementary content, I was blown away by the breadth and depth of information offered in such a short course.
This course is ideal for professionals in the fields of engineering, design, manufacturing, and materials science who are looking to either jumpstart their careers in AM, or deepen their understanding of additive manufacturing technologies.
Even if you have deep experience in one AM technology or it’s application, the course can help broaden your understanding to consider other materials, process or applications that may be of value, as well as provide the opportunity to test your knowledge and assumptions.
Discount
To make this learning opportunity even more accessible, MIT is offering a 10% discount on the course fee using the code FALLSALE at checkout for this course starting September 18th, 2023.
